Florestal Santa Maria Project

Florestal Santa Maria Project

The project is located in an area under intense deforestation pressure, in a region known as the Deforestation Arc.

Since then, numerous improvements have been made to the project, including: (i) baseline renewal using more sophisticated models, the Pixel Based Approach; (ii) adjustments to the location and configuration of the leakage belt :(iii) FSC certification renewal, remeasurement, and updating of carbon stock data; (iv) fauna and flora inventory; (v) implementation of Fauna Monitoring; (vi) social diagnosis and re-engagement of communities and other stakeholders; (vii) revision of social activities; (viii) implementation of a social program for low-carbon vertical livestock training. The evidence of this work will be provided through the revalidation of the baseline (VCS) and the validation of the CCB, which will be conducted in 2023, following an independent audit period.

One of the biodiversity activities of the FSM project is the image capture and cataloging of animals present in the project area. For this purpose, the FSM project relies on 20 trap cameras installed at 10 strategic points.

The cameras are ready to capture images 24 hours a day. Among the captured animals, jaguars, ocelots, tapirs, and deer are the most frequently observed.

In the months of March and April 2023, as part of the community activities, events and trainings were conducted with the local community and collaborators from Fazenda Santa Maria: health events in partnership with the Municipal Health Department of Colniza-MT, fire brigade training, and first aid training.

At the end of the year 2022, the project underwent an audit conducted by Earthood, as part of the validation and verification process for the renewal of the baseline and the project's results from 2019 to 2022.
