Systemica participates in NY Climate Week

The Systemica team participated in New York Climate Week, one of the main international events on the urgency of dealing with climate change. The conference took place between September 17th and 24th amid protests in the city, with several organizations demanding stricter measures against the exploitation of fossil fuels.

On the 19th, Systemica participated in a round table organized by GFANZ and the Presidency of COP28, which was attended by CEOs and CSO (Chief Sustainability Officers) from relevant companies in the market. The panel tried to answer how greater demand can be signaled in the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) until COP28.

After the panel, it was clear that developing VCM will require direct engagement with the demand side of the market, and supply will have to respond. For us at Systemica, we need to be true to our commitment to social and environmental integrity and transparency. Our great opportunity is to work directly with demand, engaging buyers directly in our projects.

Among the lectures we attended as spectators, one of the highlights was the panel organized by The Nature Conservancy (TNC), which was attended by John Kerry, former US Secretary of State and current US Climate Envoy, the Ministers Sonia Guajajara and Fernando Haddad, Helder Barbalho, Governor of Pará, and Jennifer Morris, CEO of TNC.

Many of the speeches highlighted the importance of looking at carbon policies side by side with the social context, as it is impossible to talk about keeping the forest standing without a commitment to indigenous peoples.

Here at Systemica, we ensure that our projects bring social benefits, strengthening the link between the carbon market and the populations that care for and live in our main biomes. We were happy with the messages we heard at Climate Week, including the urgency of decarbonization actions, the importance of the contribution of nature based solutions, and the commitment to forest people, which are Systemica's mission and commitment.
